Using Experimentation and Simulation to Design Land Covers with Decimal Conditions

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

We will share a STEM lesson where fourth grade students use a simulation to predict and test areas of their school grounds for infiltration. Students use Google Earth to share where they did their experiment and what they found. Students learn how the simulation uses decimal conditions for land covers. Students play with a virtual manipulative to make connections between the land cover conditions and a "whole" land cover. Students work together to design their own “whole” land cover. Students develop computational thinking by using simulations as tools to help us better understand and solve problems. Working in partners helps us see how we can tackle a big problem together. We will share our own experiences working with students and samples of student work.
